Michael Stewart was born in Northern Ireland in 1959. At Belfast High School he excelled at all sports, particularly in rugby, captaining the 1st XV team. He studied English Literature at Stirling University and also captained the rugby team there. While at Stirling he was chosen to play for the Scottish Universities team.
After graduation, Michael moved to New York and eventually began his career in banking. He obtained a Masters degree in Business and quickly progressed up the ladder becoming Vice President of Carr Futures at the time of his death.
Michael has two sons from his first marriage. Frankie, aged 14 when his Dad died and Eamon, aged 11 at that time. He was engaged to his girlfriend of 5 years Kristin and they have a son Liam, who was only 2 when he lost his dad. An extremely committed parent, he is sorely missed by his boys and it is a real tragedy that he will never see them grow into adulthood.
It is testament to Michael’s compassion and decency that no matter what dizzy heights he achieved in his career, he always kept his feet firmly on the ground and was a tower of strength to his loved ones. His warmth, tolerance, humour and caring nature will always be fondly remembered by all those who had the honour of knowing and loving him.
